The Aquila, or eagle was the standard of the Roman military. One belongs by each legion and is carried by a legionary known as a Aquilifer.

Spartacus defeated a total of fourteen legions during the Third Servile War, and they only captured 12 Aquila's, the other two were retrieved by Marcus Crassus.

The aquila emblem generally had up-raised wings surrounded by a laurel wreath. It was mounted on a narrow trapezoidal base and mounted on a pole that was held aloft.
