Auctus was a Greek gladiator who escaped from the ludus of Lentulus Batiatus along with Spartacus, Crixus and the other gladiators and slaves. He later remained with the rebels and fought in the slave rebellion against the Roman Republic during the Third Servile War.
Auctus was born in Greece. During his adult years his village was raided by the Romans, yet he chose to fight but was later captured. He was sent to fight “Ad Gladium”, to die in the arena with 10 other captured Greeks. Only he and a few others survived and he became a gladiator, sold to Lentulus Batiatus.
