The six Roman cohorts under the command of Claudius Glaber were the first force sent against Spartacus and his rebel group during the Third Servile War. The 3000 soldiers under Glaber's command were not professional legionares, but local farmers and villiagers who were recruited due to the Roman senate underestimating the escaped gladiators and viewed the slowly resulting rebellion as nothing but an outbreak of slaves. Glaber's force was probably no more than a militia.
