Thessela was a Greek slave who escaped from the ludus of Batiatus along with the other slaves and gladiators. She later fought in the slave rebellion against the Roman Republic.

Thessela was born in 99 BC, in Athens, Greece, and taken into slavery at a young age. She spent most of her life in Capua, eventually being bought by Lanista Lentulus Batiatus in 79 BC, and put to work as a house slave, even attending his wife and children in their ludus.

During her years in Batiatus' service, Thessala would form a romantic relationship with Drapaes, one of the Gladiators. She was one of the house slaves who helped Spartacus and the other gladiators escape in 73 BC.
